2 Rescues in 1 Day

Today (February 12, 2022) this morning on MMRCC Rescue Helpline I received some annoying news from Sunil Gaikwad Dada. A six-day-old baby has been dumped in Tamhini Ghat and police with the help of Shivdurgamitra Lonavla rescue team have started searching for the baby's body. Reading this bad news made me realize that today would be a difficult day.

1 - Torna Fort

At 2:15 pm on the MMRCC rescue helpline, Sunil Bhatia received a call for rescue from Torna Fort. 22-year-old Niranjan Dhoot (resident of Pune) has fainted due to dizziness while visiting the fort. He will need immediate help. I immediately contacted Mayuresh who came to the trek with Niranjan and got information about the unconscious boy. During the trek in the morning and before fainting he learned what his symptoms were. According to him, Niranjan's pulse was running (the activity in his hand was like a smart watch). But considering the sequence of events he told me, I guided him on how to physically check all the vitals and breathing without relying on the clock. His pulse was very low and the breathing process was negligible, according to the information he gave after the checkup.

He immediately explained the CPR method and asked the patient to continue CPR. At the same time, I contacted some locals by phone from the village of Velhe in the foothills and sent them to Torna fort for help. Until then, Sunil Bhatia had contacted the Velhe village police. With his help, he contacted 108 and arranged an ambulance with a doctor. The rescue operation was coordinated at a very fast pace and soon the ambulance reached the base and reached the local fort on a stretcher. At our request, the doctors also started climbing the fort.

Meanwhile, Niranjan's friends and some trekkers were giving him first aid (CPR) in the middle of the fort. After a while, the villagers reached him with a stretcher and started descending the fort with Niranjan in an unconscious state. At some distance the stretcher team met the doctor in the ambulance. Doctors advised Niranjan to undergo a preliminary checkup and take him to a nearby hospital as soon as possible. They all got down from the fort and rushed him to the nearest rural hospital by ambulance at around 4:00. Immediate treatment was started on Niranjan here. The doctors tried their best but in the end they could not save Niranjan Dhoot. In this rescue operation everyone tried hard to save his life, very soon all the help was given by all the systems but in the end no success was achieved.

2 - Peb Fort

At 5:15 am, I received a call for rescue from Peb Fort on the MMRCC Rescue Helpline. When 1 son (Avinash Jain) and 3 daughters were coming to Peb fort for tourism, they had waited while descending towards Neral. They also felt dehydrated because they had already run out of water. But none of them were injured or any of them were in critical condition. They were more afraid because it was getting dark.

The MMRCC rescue helpline assured them that help would reach them soon. Luckily for their mobile as internet is available, their location on Google map was requested via WhatsApp. Asking them to stop at that location, Peb sent a local guide from the village of Phanaswadi at the foot of the fort to the group's location for rescue. Two teams left Phanaswadi village with water and torch for the search operation.

The search was successful at about 6:00 p.m. Deepak Padir and Vikram Hindola both reached the young, lost four. After giving them water, they all started descending safely towards Peb fort Neral. At around 7:30 am, all reached the Neral railway station and the rescue operation was successfully completed.

आज (दिनांक १२ फेब्रुवारी २०२२) सकाळी MMRCC रेस्क्यू हेल्पलाईन वर सुनील गायकवाड दादांकडून एक संतापजनक बातमी मिळाली. सहा दिवसांचं बाळ ताम्हिणी घाटात फेकुन देण्यात आले असुन पोलीसांनी शिवदुर्गमित्र लोणावळा रेस्क्यू टीमच्या सहाय्याने बाळाच्या मृतदेहाचा शोध सुरु केला आहे. ही वाईट बातमी वाचताच आजचा दिवस कठीण असेल याची कल्पना आली.

१ - तोरणा किल्ला

दुपारी २:१५ वाजता MMRCC रेस्क्यू हेल्पलाईन वर सुनील भाटिया सरांना तोरणा किल्ल्यावरून रेस्क्यूसाठी कॉल आला. २२ वर्षीय निरंजन धूत (रा. पुणे) याला किल्ल्यावर पर्यटन दरम्यान चक्कर येऊन बेशुद्ध झाला आहे, तातडीने मदत लागेल. निरंजन सोबत ट्रेकला आलेल्या मयुरेश याला त्वरित संपर्क करून मी त्या बेशुद्ध मुलाची माहिती घेतली. सकाळी ट्रेक दरम्यान व बेशुद्ध होण्या आधी त्याचे काय काय symptoms होते ते जाणून घेतले. त्यांच्या म्हणण्या प्रमाणे निरंजनचा पल्स चालू होता (हातातील ऍक्टिव्हिटी स्मार्ट घड्याळ प्रमाणे). पण त्यांनी सांगितलेला घटनाक्रम लक्षात घेता मी त्यांना घड्याळावर अवलंबून न राहता physically सगळे vitals व breathing चेक कसे करायचे ते गाईड केले. त्यांनी चेकअप करून जी माहिती दिली त्याप्रमाणे त्याचा पल्स खूप कमी होता व श्वास घेण्याची प्रक्रिया नगण्य होती.

त्वरित त्यांना CPR पद्धत समजावून, रुग्णाला सतत सीपीआर देण्यास सांगितले. त्याचबरोबर पायथ्याच्या वेल्हे या गावातून मी काही स्थानिकांना फोन द्वारे संपर्क करून मदतीस तोरणा गडावर पाठवले. तो पर्यंत सुनील भाटिया सरांचा वेल्हे गावातील पोलीस बरोबर संपर्क झाला होता. त्यांच्या मदतीने १०८ क्रमांकावर संपर्क करून डॉक्टरांसह रुग्णवाहिकाची व्यवस्था केली. या बचाव कार्याचे समन्वय खूप जलद गतीने झाल्याने काही वेळातच पायथ्याशी पोहोचलेल्या रुग्णवाहिका मधील स्ट्रेचर घेऊन स्थानिक किल्ला चढू लागले. याच बरोबर आमच्या विनंतीनुसार डॉक्टरांनी देखील किल्ला चढण्यास सुरुवात केली.

या दरम्यान किल्ल्याच्या मध्यावर निरंजन चे मित्र व काही ट्रेकर मंडळी त्याला प्रथमोपचार (CPR) देत होते. काही वेळातच गावकरी स्ट्रेचर घेऊन त्यांच्या पर्यंत पोहोचले व बेशुद्ध अवस्थेतील निरंजन ला घेऊन सर्व किल्ला उतरायला लागले. काही अंतरावर स्ट्रेचर टीमला रुग्णवाहिकेतील डॉक्टर भेटले. डॉक्टरांनी निरंजनचे प्राथमिक चेकअप करून लवकरात लवकर त्याला जवळच्या रुग्णालयात नेण्याचा सल्ला दिला. सर्वांनी किल्ला उतरून ऍम्ब्युलन्स मार्फत त्याला जवळच्या ग्रामीण रुग्णालयात साधारण ४:०० वाजता दाखल केले. येथे निरंजन वर त्वरित उपचार चालू करण्यात आले. डॉक्टरांनी आपल्या परीने खूप प्रयत्न केले पण शेवटी ते निरंजन धूत यास वाचवू शकले नाही. या रेस्क्यू मोहिमेत सर्वांनी त्याचा जीव वाचवण्याचा खूप प्रयत्न केला, खूप लवकर सर्व यंत्रणांकडून हालचाल होऊन सर्व मदत त्वरित करण्यात आले पण शेवटी यश मिळू शकले नाही. 

२ - पेब किल्ला

तोरणा किल्ल्यावरील रेस्क्यूचे समन्वय संपतो ना संपतो तोच ५:१५ वाजता MMRCC रेस्क्यू हेल्पलाईन वर मला पेब किल्ल्यावरून रेस्क्यूसाठी कॉल आला. १ मुलगा (अविनाश जैन) व ३ मुली हे पेब किल्ल्यावर पर्यटनाकरिता आले असता, नेरळ च्या दिशेने उतरतांना वाट चुकले होते. सोबत त्यांच्याकडील पाणी आधीच संपल्यामुळे त्यांना डिहायड्रेशन प्रमाणे वाटत होतं. पण त्यांच्यापैकी कोणीही जखमी झाले न्हवते किव्वा त्यांच्या पैकी कोणाची वैद्यकीय परीस्थिती गंभीर न्हवती. अंधार होत असल्यामुळे त्यांना जास्त भीती वाटत होती.

MMRCC रेस्क्यू हेल्पलाईन तर्फे त्यांच्यापर्यंत मदत लवकर पोहचेल असा त्यांना धीर दिला. सुदैवाने त्यांच्या मोबाईलला इंटरनेट उपलब्ध असल्याने त्यांचे गूगल मॅप वर लोकेशन व्हाट्सअँप द्वारे मागवले. त्या लोकेशनवरच त्यांना थांबायला सांगून, पेब किल्ल्याच्या पायथ्याच्या फणसवाडी या गावातून स्थानिक गाईड यांना रेस्क्यू करीता त्या ग्रुपच्या लोकेशनवर पाठवले. फणसवाडी गावातून २ टीम्स ह्या शोध मोहिमेसाठी पाणी व टॉर्च घेऊन निघाले.

साधारण ६:०० वाजता ह्या शोध मोहिमेत यश मिळाले. दीपक पादीर व विक्रम हिंदोळा हे दोघे तरुण, रास्ता हरवलेल्या चौघांपर्यंत पोहोचले. त्यांना पाणी दिल्यानंतर सर्व सुखरूपपणे पेब किल्ला नेरळच्या दिशेने उतरू लागले. साधारण ७:३० वाजता सर्व नेरळ रेल्वे स्थानकाजवळ पोहोचली व बचाव मोहीम यशस्वीरित्या पूर्ण झाली.
